Easter weekend, 2-day Show of Goes/NL and Limoges/FRA

Goes is located in the province of Zeeland, the south-western part of the Netherlands. A Holiday Resort for German Campers and lovers of French Fries. During the Easter period, almost all Hotels are booked. As dog People are a special kind of species, they go to the Show of Goes during Easter…..

In Goes, you almost always have a very interesting list with judges, lots of foreigners, who have never judged in the Netherlands before. This time Goes had a première, it was with Easter and it was a Show over two days. Normally, on Easter Monday, I would have been in Leeuwarden (in the high North of the Netherlands) at a Show. This already since 1975, but since a 2 years this Show is no longer held, probably because the halls have become too expensive.

Saturday, the judging of the 12 OES, was in hands of the Danish Mrs. Hoier and on Sunday, the Irish Mrs. A. White (10 OES). Mrs. Hoier made her choice, in the Champion Class, for our “King” (Int-NL-B-LUX-D-VDH-CH. Kingsize aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal), which I had entered for both days. He lost against the male of Chris Beirendonk, from the Open Class and became Res-Best Male. Because the other male is also the father of our puppies, this was a small comfort. Something that was outright horribel, was the painful and asocial behaviour of one of the exhibitors, who can’t bear the fact when she is losing. Standing in the middle of the ring and answering a question about the dog, asked by the judge, she shoutingly and yellingly intervened in the conversation. It was so painful, that I was ashamed. This lady is a reoffender, who at the Show of Eindhoven in 2014 and 2011 also went completely balistic. Many years ago, kynology was a hobby for people from the High Society. During the past 5 years the level dropped so deep, that you have to be ashamed when participating in a dog Show.

On Easter Monday, it was up to the Irish Mrs. White to judge our OES. During both days I was accompanied by my dear friend Karin Roozeboom. During many years, she had beautiful Bobtails. Karin was not only surprised by the mis-behaviour of an exhibitor, but also about the bad quality of our breed. She expressed her dissapointment especially about the bitches. Unfortunately I had to agree.

Any way, the Irish Misses White, was also convinced abouth the qualities of our “Kingsize aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal”. He became Best Of Breed and she praised especially his beautiful and breed typical movement, substance and the way he carries his tail. She thinks that short steps, read a hectical movement, is a-typical for an OES, because such a dog needs the double amount on energy, when doing his daily tasks. It is a sheepdog for half days, because during the second part of the day, has no more strenght left to herd the sheep cattle. A tail, curled over the back, is a sign of dominance and a bad developed pelvis. This according the sayings of  judge. I thought this was a VERY skilled saying. In the Big Ring, Misses Hoier judged FCI Group 1. Out of the enormous groep, she selceted 5 Dogs. King and I where amongst these 5. Unfortunately there where only 3 places to be forgiven and we where not among these three. That means we see ourselves as the Nr.4 of Group1.

Best Of Breed and 4th in Group 1, our “King”.
