Exhibitions in September 2023

September is another very busy month with exhibitions. Actually “Uschi” and I are still tired from the exhausting World Show in Geneva at the end of August. But that doesn’t stop us from showing again for 2 days in Luxembourg at the double CACIB.

On Friday on the way there it was pouring with rain and cool. But when we arrived at our hotel in Luxembourg around 4 pm, the rain stopped and the sun came out. It stayed that way and it became really nice to very warm.

“Uschi” was accompanied by “Caro”, for whom we actually made this trip. I thought that her title of Luxembourg Junior Champion was still missing.

“Caro” is a lover of things on tables or on bedside cabinets, whether at home or in the hotel. So we had no choice but to take both dogs to the hotel restaurant for dinner. As the two behaved very well, there was also a reward.

The next morning, 2 September 2023, we were as usual early at the halls and at our ring. Mr Uwe Nölke from Germany had 3 males (1 absent) and 6 females to judge.

Paul, who had actually always shown our “Caro” (Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal  ) very nicely until now, did EVERYTHING wrong when walking with her. He had taken the clip out as the judge felt the head and did not put it back in. I tried from the edge of the ring to loudly convince him that he MUST put it back in. Paul was stressed and pulled “Caro” behind him because she couldn’t see much and hit the brakes. I was on the verge of a heart attack and could have become a murderer. Result: “Caro” in 2nd place and I was so angry, I think the whole hall knew about it.

Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal                                                      The judge Mr. Nölke, 1st place “Brywn’s Zelda” 2nd place “Caro

Then it was Gerda Jolink’s turn in the intermediate class with her “Ziva” (Ultrachic aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal). She was alone and received the CAC. This was her 2nd CAC in Luxembourg and therefore “Ziva” fulfilled all conditions for the Luxembourg Champion. Congratulations Gerda. Champion no 171 in our gallery.

Ultrachic aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal new Luxemburger Champion

“Uschi” Ch. Uschi Glas aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal was with 2 other bitches in the champion class. She won with flying colours and was also Best Bitch. What was very nice , that Gerda won with “Ch. UltraChic aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” Res- Best Bitch.

Uschi and Ziva with the judge Mr. Nölke

“Uschi” became best of breed, best male was Ria van der Wal with” Lord Flemming of Brammers Bairns”

In the ring of honour, which was judged by Mr. Cox from Ireland, “Uschi” was among the last 6 in the large and strong group 1.

Mrs. Nölke has placed these 3 beautiful photos at my disposal. Thank you very much.

After this special day and my anger in my stomach, which will probably always remain, I had to have a drink and needed a meal. We had booked a table at the beautiful “Le Royal” Hotel in Luxembourg instead. But I didn’t dare leave Caro alone with Uschi in the room. Gerda Jolink also stood in the hotel and she did the “dog-sitting” for “Caro”. “Uschi” stayed in the room and slumbered away.

On the beautiful terrace of the hotel I washed down my frustration with 3 Porno Martini cocktails (my favourite). Afterwards I had an excellent dinner and as punishment Paul had to pay for this evening. Punishment must be.

Cheers

We had left our cages, brush table and bags at ring 2 on Saturday. There we were again at the start the next day. The other OES exhibitors did the same. Except Johan Wulteputte, who did not come back on day 2. He had entered for his youth CAC at the show in Genk/BEL. There were 3 OES entered.

It was not our turn until 11.30 a.m., so we allowed ourselves the luxury of sleeping longer and arriving at the show at around 9 a.m..

It was the same game, but I wanted to make sure that everything was done right with “Caro” and so I showed her myself for the judge Mr. Guido Schäfer/GER.

Now our “Caro” is Luxembourg Junior Champion and FCI Int. Junior Champion.

“Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal”

“Uschi” also made Bella Figura again and became Best of Breed and the male also became Best Male again.

The Ring of Honour was judged on Sunday 3.9.2023 by the well-known Swiss all-rounder Mrs. L. Mach and we were once again among the last 6

Impressions from both days.

On Monday, “Uschi” had to take a long beauty sleep.

It is a fairy tale that show dogs are not allowed anything and are never dirty! This is “Unisono” , who will be shown on Sunday 10-9-23 in Zwolle/NL. This is how she looked on Monday 4-9-2023 before I washed and brushed her.

This weekend was the double CACIB show in Leipzig/GER. On the 1st day Mr. Wirth/GER judged (with change of judge). Angelika Bardelli was again on the road and got Excellent 2nd place with her beautiful “Verliebt aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal”. Photos with thanks to Mrs. Schulz-Lorenz

1st place “Hermine von den Bayern Bobby’s”, the judge Mr. Wirth/GER, 2nd place “Verliebt aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal”

On the 2nd day the renowned all-rounder “Mr. Güllix from Germany” judged as a substitute judge.

1st place “Verliebt aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” 2nd place “Hermine von den Bayern Bobby’s”.

On 10.9.2023 a national outdoor exhibition took place in Zwolle/NL. We wanted to visit Zwolle, a great old town. The temperatures were just too high and we didn’t want to leave our dogs alone in the hotel for so long.

“Cloe” and “Caro” are of course spoiled accordingly when they are travelling with us. This time with the leftovers of Paul’s steak.

The number of dogs that can register is small and therefore always closed quickly. That’s probably why only 2 OES males and 4 females were entered. Of these, 2 were from us: “Unisono” in the Champion class and “Vorbildlich” in the Junior class. In addition there were 2 bitches from the open class. The judge was the breed specialist (himself a breeder of OES) Mr Colm Hastings from Ireland. It was the last hot weekend in September with midday temperatures around 30 degrees. We were lucky and it was our turn at 10.30 am. Paul was allowed to show “Caro” again, he was alone in the class and did everything right.

“Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” Excellent  1 J-CAC

“Cloe” moved  just great and had fun in the ring. Photo with thanks to Roos Dijkxhoorn

With her sweet charisma and her beautiful gait, “Cloe” could convince the judge and won against the imposing champion male from England.

Best of Breed “Ch. Unisono aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” of the judges Mr. Hastings and Helen Woods with “Ch. Vigilats Rhapsody in Blue”

Our dear Ian Wiltshire of the “Bordershome” Border Collies was kind enough to film the judging of the bobtail ladies. Thank you Ian

On the weekend 16/17/09-2023 the double CACIB show took place in the beautiful Maastricht. This time the number 49 on Saturday and the jubilee number 50 on Sunday. Great halls, great organisation, one of my favourite shows. On Saturday a Pole, Mr A. Szutkiewicz, judged and on Sunday the Serbian Mrs Lazic. On Saturday, 10 dogs were entered and 8 were present. Only 1 male, but 3 bitches in the junior class and 2 in the champion class. The other two bitches were alone in their class.

“Caro” Multi Junior Ch. “Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” won the junior class with flying colours and has now finished her title ” Dutch Junior Champion”. Her 4th youth title in 2 months. She also became Res- Best Bitch. It is always annoying when the winning dog just jumps in front of you and does not behave in the ring. All the other exhibitors had to stop because the owner did not manage to get her dog under control. Well, and then the jumping dog wins. Of course, you are expected to say nothing and be happy with the winner. But that’s not the way it is with me! Winners should learn to win and also to lose with decency, which was announced with nasty words against me on the second day, when the dog again did not moved  and lost. That expects a suitable answer from me and then the other party cries.. What a kindergarten! My dog can’t be shown properly, I have to stop all the time because the one in front of me is just jumping. The top point of the day is that I’m called unsporting. That expects a suitable answer from me and then the other party cries…….That expects a suitable answer from me and then the other party cries. That expects a suitable answer from me and then the other party cries. Goodness! will now always ask, how long I should wait before running with  my dog and how much distance is desired……

Doesn’t matter! “Cloe” Ch. Unisono aus dem Elbe Urstromtal” came 2nd in the champion class.

Such a funny photo, it looks like Cloe is grinning

“Caro” 2nd best bitch from the youth class

“Caro” Multi Junior Ch. “Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” best youth dog and 2nd best female with the judge

We were ready around 11 a.m. and could actually have gone home. But: if you become Best Youth Dog, you have to go into the Ring of Honor. The junior dogs are always judged last before the Best in Show. Since it was a  exhibition with all the 10 FCI groups, you  will be judged just before Best in Show. Two youth dogs should be pulled out of each group. The judge was Mr. Jipping and he doesn’t like bobtails anymore… When you stand in the prejudging ring at 5:30 p.m. and wait for the judge to prejudge the dog and no one comes, that’s frustrating. Then you can do your lap in the Ring of Honor, 2 minutes later the border collie next to you is pulled out and then nothing else. i.e. no second young dog was chosen. Either you eat unreasonable things out of frustration or you get a little drunk at home. You can’t change anything.

I shortened the long waiting time from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with something practical. My dear friend and long-time breeder colleague Chris van Beirendonk was sad that she and her “Mascha” only came 4th best bitch. I tried to explain with great sensitivity that Masha has way too much hair and looks very bulky and long. Chris loves all the hair on her. With the help of Inge van Engelen we were able to convince her that “Mascha” needed a makeover. So I got out my 2 scissors and started on the non-exhibition side. Chris thought that was very successful and I was allowed to do the other side too. With a little finishing touch from Inge van Engelen, “Masha” looked like new. In the evening I thought to myself that I was really stupid for styling my competition for the next day. True!!! The next day Chris won Best Female and Best of Breed with “Mascha”.

We were home around 7 p.m.

On Sunday September 17th, 2023 we drove to Maastricht again at 7:15 a.m. Today there were 13 registered OES, 2 males, both of which were shown. Like the day before, the bitch in the youngest class didn’t show up. In the youth class, 5 were registered, but 1 was absent. Open class 1 female, 1 in the intermediate class and 2 in the champion class and 1 veteran female. The judge was Ms.  Lazic from Serbia.

“Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” won the youth class again.

“Caro” with the judge Ms. Lazic

Cloe ” Ch. Unisono aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” won the champion class

Now I had to go back into the ring with 2 dogs to compete for Best Bitch and Res-Best Bitch. That’s not possible, that’s why Paul took the “Caro” to introduce her. I stood in the ring with Cloe as a representative of the champion class.

So youth class “Vorbildlich”, intermediate class with “Mascha” from Chris, the open class bitch who, like the day before, couldn’t be tamed and I behind with “Unisono” who I almost couldn’t show properly because the open class bitch was once again not under  controlled. Lastly, the veteran bitch.

The judge then let us run again and put Chris van Beirendonk in 1st place with “Mascha” and me in 2nd place with “Unisono”. But she said to me and for everyone to hear: I actually think the youth class bitch, i.e. “Caro”, is the best. But she is not shown to her best as I did. I now give you the chance to change the bitch with your champion class. Then the youth class can win and become best female. I struggled briefly with myself whether I should do it or not. I didn’t think it was sporty to change the dog…….. so the placement stayed the same and “Cloe aka ch. Unison aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” became Best Female and Chris with “Mascha” became Best Female .

I came out of the ring and am insulted by the lady with the open class and her friend as being unsportsmanlike, saying that I had hindered her while running…  Then I exploded!

Impression of Maastricht on Sunday. Best male on the left and best of the breed on the right. It’s so unsporting of me to make my own competition so beautiful that it wins over my dogs… You notice: I’m pissed off

The same game as the day before: wait, wait and wait even longer… this time Best Junior in Group 1 was judged as the last group at 5:45 p.m. Again the judge didn’t come to prejudge. This time a Spanish woman who, as so often, gave the Bouvier Group 1. Again, no second dog was selected. By the time everything was stowed in the car, it was 6:30 p.m. That was a 13 hour day. This day ends with bilateral events and feelings.

On Sunday there was a specialty show for British herding dogs in Gäufelden/Germany. Ms. A. Bardelli from Switzerland shows her beautiful “Verliebt aus dem  Elbe-Urstromtal” for the judge Mr. C. Ritter from France. She won the youth class.

“Rolfi”, owner Amilia Helin, became Best of Breed on 16-9-2023 in Tomelilla/Sweden by the judge Mrs. E. Liljekvist Borg and became 3rd Best of group 1. The judge was Mr. T. Grubbe/Danmark
