Exhibitions in August 2023

It just won’t stop raining! That’s unpleasant in July and August, but when you have 2 outdoor shows, it gets really mean.

On Saturday 5-8-2023 the BRABO dog club organised a show in Braschaat/BEL. Especially for the veterans and junior dog, who can win the CAC for the titles there. For the other classes it was an Open Show. The club has a wonderful area and had tents set up for the exhibitors . This was great and made the day relaxed. We could leave our tent in the car for the next day in Rotterdam. “Caro” was again alone, judge was Mrs. Ingrid Hectors/BEL. She wrote a wonderful judge’s report about our “Caro” and she became Best of Breed with the 2nd Youth CAC.

Paul presented her very skilfully “Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal”

That was at 10 o’clock in the morning, again the long wait started until the Ring of Honour began at 3 o’clock. It was cold and raining in between. It didn’t help: Paul had to get the good old Pedigree Chum blanket out of the car. It is not a Scottish tartan, but a prize you got in England some years ago if you won Best of Breed. I think it was around the year 2000.

In the Ring of Honour, this time presented by me, our “Caro” took 2nd place in Group 1. Judge was Mr. Theo Leenen/BEL

The next day was the exhibition in Rotterdam/NL. Actually, the show was always held in the AHOI halls, but that became too expensive. So the club organised the CAC show on their own club grounds in Bergschenhoek/NL. Always great in good weather, but it was supposed to rain cats and dogs. All weather forecasts were terrible. At first we thought about staying at home. We didn’t, but we took only 2 dogs with us instead of 3. “Caro’s” brother “King” (Vollblut aus dem  Elbe-Urstromtal) was entered and actually his owner Kinga was supposed to show him. She has no more time. Unfortunately…..

We got up at 4.30 am, it was raining, let the 2 show dogs “Caro” and “Cloe” out with socks on under the covered outdoor kennel. By the time all the others had done their morning toilet they were wet. We left at 5.45 am in heavy rain and arrived at the site at 7.40 am. It was heavy rain and aquaplaning on the motorway. I wondered how all this was going to work.

Once there, we found that the car park was a good walk and only had space for a few vehicles. My handicap permit allowed me to park on the grounds, which had a very soggy lawn. So don’t get stuck. It was raining! Grit your teeth. We both had to set up the exhibition tent in the rain. My hair was ruined and my rain jacket was no longer waterproof. Paul had no problems with his bold head and Jack Wolfskin jacket. No matter with or without a hairstyle, the show must go on. The dogs were dry in their cages and in the tent by 8.30 a.m., ready and waiting. By the way, we heard that it was not Mr Beatty from Ireland who was judging, but Mr Rooney from Ireland.

There were 11 OES entered, 3 males of which 2 were absent and the rest were females. The youth class was the strongest with 5 girls.

Everything turned out well. It did not rain, we stayed dry.

Our “Caro” won the strong youth class, “Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” 10 months old

von rechts nach links: 1. Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal, 2. Brwyn’s Zelda, 3. Very Vain Viviane of Snowboot Bears, all 3 with Excellent, 4th with Very Good Joy With Jive from Rocky’s Desteney

Then it was the turn of “Cloe”. With her 22 months in the champion class against Ch. The Amazing Piper of Snowboot Bears. But “Ch. Unisono aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” owner King Kolscar, won the champion class. She was also Best Bitch against “Hockesberghe’s Walc Grace us Giulia” owned by Peggy Kraaijenveld, who was the only bitch in the Open Class.

The judge liked our “Cloe” “Unisono aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” and gave her Best of Breed against the only male “Ch. Vigilat’s Special Surprise Sheriff” by A. Handgraaf.

Then it stayed dry from 10am until the Ring of Honour started at 4pm and it rained thick tropics and we got wet. There was no place for us on the podium this time . Anyway Wet but happy

“Ch. Unisono aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” Best of Breed

Gerda Jolink travelled with her “Ziva” to Oldenburg/GER for a 3 day show. This turned out to be a very successful affair:

“Ultrachic aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal”

4-8-2023 National Show Judge Mrs. K. Voye/GER Excellent 1, CAC

5-8-2023 International Show, Judge Mr. M. Wibier/NL Excellent 1, CACIB, CAC, Best of Breed

On Saturday the owner of the only entered male refused to stand for the BOB and BOS photo

6-8-2023 International Show, judge Mrs. H. Müller/GER, Excellent 1, CACIB, CAC, Best of Breed.

Mrs. Müller and also Mr. Wibier were both breeders of the Old English Sheepdog breed, so real breed specialists!

Best Male Veteran Pennylane Attention Please from Mrs Klein, the judge Mrs Müller and Best of Breed “Ultra Chic aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal”.

On 5 and 6 August Anglika Bardelli from Switzerland joined her. She showed her “Luna” in the junior class and became Best Junior both times and rounded off the title German Junior Champion.

Martina Weissman was with her beautiful “Multi Ch. Sexygirl aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” at the Double Special Show in Wirgens/GER. On Saturday Mr. Muldoon judged and on Sunday Mrs. Muldoon from Ireland. “Ziva” only served as filler in the Champion class. It is sad to see what judges allow themselves! An OES should still be a square dog, with a graceful arched neck and elastic gaits and be free of brown (certainly in the champion class). The many photos from this show on Facebook speak for themselves.

Tuesday 15.8.2023 was a holiday in Belgium. The canine club of Aalst/BEL had organised a show for youth and veterans. This was the chance for a 3rd youth CAC for our “Caro” . However, I had to do this on my own, as Paul works in the Netherlands and there it was not a holiday. The show took place in Geraardabergen/BEL, a good 2 hours and 15 minutes drive. The alarm clock went off at 5 am, departure at 6.15 . In the evening I was back home around 8 pm. But with a new Belgian Junior Champion in my luggage! Mrs Rooney from Ireland judged the 4 OES puppies and the 2 bitches in the youth class. “Vorbildlich aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” became Best of Breed and received the 3rd Youth CAC. Now “Caro” has fulfilled all conditions for the Belgian Youth Champion. That was not all on this day! After we were judged at 10 am, the judging in the ring of honour took place at 4 pm…… that was once again a long wait. It was great weather and I had nice conversations. Mr. Rooney, also from Ireland, judged the groups with the junior dogs and “Caro” won the junior group 1. In the group competition of all BOB dogs, she was in the last 3 dogs in group 1, unfortunately only 1 was placed.

It was a very exhausting day, as I had to put up the tent alone and heave the cage, table, chair, bags and trolley out of the car and back again in the evening. I did it and was exhausted.

It was difficult with the photos. I only have 1 photo of Caro and me. There was no time in the ring and my OES co-exhibitors allegedly have no photos of the 2 youth dogs. I will think twice about taking photos of these ladies and gentlemen at the next shows and then make them available to them in a sporting way.

On 20.8.2023 the International Show in Ludwigshafen/GER took place as usual. I have been there many times before, always great when the weather is nice. This time it was almost too hot. Gesa Milde made the long journey from Hamburg with her “Uffe”. After a long break from showing, Gesa wanted to do it again. There were 8 OES entered for the Italian Mr. Bruno Maffezzoni. And…… Ch. Pulverfass aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” became Best of Breed.  He is  a very beautiful OES male.

Last Sunday in August a Special Breed Show took place in Bad Salzhausen/Hessen/GER. Judge was Mr. H. Steinmetz and he had 7 OES to judge. Mrs. Regenhardt was very satisfied with her Ch. “Take That aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” with Excellent 1 and CAC and Angelika Bardelli was on the road again after the World Show in Geneva on Wednesday and Thursday. Her “Verliebt aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal” became Best of Breed out of the junior class over strong competition. Congratulations.

Photo with thanks to Mrs. Nadja Streb, on the right with her best male “Just Friends You and me” , the judge Mr. Steinmetz and

Best of Breed at 14 months “Verliebt aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal”.
