European Champion Show Geneva/Switserland 30-08-13

At the beginning of this year, you had the possibility to enter for this show. Judge for the OES would be Mrs. C. Baily, Zottel OES  from United Kingdom. That was interesting and I had never been to Geneva/CH before. Two more reasons to enter for this show. Looking for a hotel, of course with bathing tub because the dogs have to be washed and a terrace on the ground floor to groom. This was available in France. To be more specific in Divonne les Bains. The Swiss Border is an a small distance away. End of July I wanted to print my entry tickets, because I always book via Dogelle. But there were no entry tickets!!! A mistake had to be made, as the entries had not been received and I hadn’t noticed this at the beginning of the year. So there was no other option than to book again but now against the full payment of 210,– Euro. The closer the date of the show came, the less energie I had to go. I had heard who all where going to be at the show and that they expected something in return, so my combattiveness and energie sunk. On Monday 26-08, I received an e-mail from my best friend who washed me my ears, after which I was fit again and ready to go for it.  “King” was still clean after the Show in Rotterdam the week before and on Tuesday “Doro” had gotten a bath, was styled and blow dried. That evening the car was almost completely packed  and on Wednesday, Harry and I drove in the direction of Geneva. Hearth and home where guarded by Ulf and Anette Bechstedt. We had a beautiful trip through Luxemburg, Metz and Nancy.

At a stop some where in France. Harry is equally sharing his sandwich with King.

Later on we went of route and drove via the N5 to Divonne les Bains. The N5 is a beautiful route, with many curves to get over the hill slopen in order to get to the Lake of Geneva. Our hotel was situated in a very quiet area and after our arrival we took the 2 doggies for a small walk. Thursday we went, together with the dogs (as you where not allowed to leave the dogs by themselves in the hotelroom), to the Lake of Geneva. A very beautiful city, and the lake is so gorgeous, especially the 25 meter high fountain in the harbour is gigantic.

After the visit to Geneva, we drove to the show ground to see where we had to park and how to get into the hall from the parking. There was one (1)elevator for all floors, which you needed to get to the level of the show. From Level C there was a way to the hall, however it was a steep hill, that needed a good condition to get to the top. The undergrond garage was not suitable for the vehicles we where driving we found out. An enormous concrete pilar was in our way and refused to move. Doesn’t matter, laugh away the frustration, dry your tears, back to the hotel to wash and blow dry the dogs again.

Fridaymorning at 04.45, the alarmclock went off. Put the socks on to the dogs and walked a little round. Both boss and his wife had to get styled and than in to the direction of the Show. At 06.30 we stood in line at the entrance and we where not the first ones. Finally at 07.45 the doors opened. We found a good spot at the ring and judging started at 09.30 Hrs. “King” stood, together with two males, both older than him in the Champion Class. There was 1 male in the Open Class and 2 in the Intermediate Class. 6 males in the Youth Class, 1 male in Puppy Class and 1 Veteran. To my great joy “King” won the Champion Class. After this he lost against the males from the Open and Intermediate Class. I understood this decision, as these two dogs are equal as far as type is concerned and King looks completely different. With the Bitches there was 1 bitch in the Puppy Class, 2 in the Intermediate Class, 1 in Open Class and 5 in the Champion Class. One of the present bitches was almost nine years old. Together with the Spanish Bitch, Doro were the youngest with almost 3 years. It was warm in the hall and we had to run a lot. Sweat was standing on the exibitors faces. BUT: “Doro” won the her Class, became Best Bitch and to my great surprise also became Best of Breed. Unfortunately you don’t receive an judging report and a rosette was received later. Mrs. Bailey wrote a splendid comment on Facebook regarding King and Doro.

“Kingsize aus dem Elbe-UrstromtalSuch a nice big boy, loved him!! He just needs a little more time to complete the picture.“

This is what Mrs. Bailey wrote about Doro: ” I was very happy to give this lovely female the bitch Cacib & BOB. For me she had all I was looking for. a strong head with a correctly shaped under jaw and wide foreface, correct stop, near enough perfect shoulder angulation, deep brisket, lots of substance, correct body weight, lovely rise to the loin and very nice, well angulated & well muscled hindquarters. Her coat is of a nice clear colour with a good break and very nice texture. On the day she pulled out all the stops and moved steadily & not too fast but just the way an OES should do with a lovely reach and drive. I would make room for this girl in my house at any time.“

Best Bitch and European Champion 2013 and BOB: “Jadore aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal”, judge Mrs. C. Bailey (Zottel OES). The Res-CACIB winner was so unfair to leave the ring and after she was asked to come back in to the ring for the picture, she refused to come back .

Saturday we drove back home, but not before I had a last peek at the Lake of Geneva. This time in a small village close to our hotel. A pleasant goodbye to a beautiful scenery. Of course there was a lunch in the Nancy area with Harry, King and Doro. Purely enjoying.
