Doro puppies 10 days old

We need a little bit more time, before we can give the latest updates regarding our puppies. Last Saturday, we had to say goodbye to our little male “David”. He was born with a weight of 190 gram and too small to drink at Doro’s nippel. The bottle he absolutely refused. Than only one thing remains: a sonde every 3 hours, day and night. Two days later, for the first time, he drank on Doro’s nipple and our joy was enormous. However, we still had to be with him every 3 hours, to help him to get a round and think belly. The other puppies where double as heavy and simply pushed him a side. His weight rised up to 290 gram. That was still not great, but so far so good. His colour was yellow ish instead of puppy pink…. The veterinarian suspected that his liver was not working properly, but did not want to give up yet. So continue, day and night. He now even drank out of the bottle and I was full of good faith. Saturdaymorning, before I had to leave to go to a show, he didn want to drink. Harry was dog watching and was in controle over the situation. He called several times, during the show, because the little one completely refused to drink and was only whining. The order was: call the veterinarian. In the mean time, I was on my way home and also could not reach our vet on her private mobile number. As I arrived at home, things became clear. The little one was in pain and a chance for healing was far from close. Again tried to reach the vet and again without result (she had forgotten her phone at home as it was her free weekend). The emergency service also had little spare time and we could not come  to a few hours later. I didn want to wait that long and I could not watch this anymore. Nor Harry, nor I had the courage to kill the little one. Our neighbour is a hunter and I had asked him for help, in order to relieve the little one from his pain. Rather not, was his answer, but to let an animal suffer, was something he couldn’t see either. 3 adults had tears in their eyes and I think that either one of us have cried, when they where alone. Little “David” was relieved from his pain. After eight days full of stress and tensions, I fell into a hole and first had to recover and slept for 7 hours. Finally I could concentrate on the 7 thick and pink puppies and enjoy them.

Here, the last picture of little “David” and how satisfied he sleeps in the arm of his bigger brother.

5 Tage pups Doro

Sunday was photo shoot for the little beauties. With some small openings are visible and it won take long before they will start opening their little eyes. All have gained weight very well. Doro is a dream of a mother. She is so careful and caring. There is no work at all with the puppies, except 1 per day clean the whelping box and make sure that Doro gets something to eat.

Here the male: ‘Norman Harrison”. He already blinks a little bit with his eyes.
