Breeding is not only fluffy puppies

Breeding is so much joy, but sometimes worrying and sad.

Our wonderful “ Uschi”, mum of 9 puppies, 5 weeks old, became very ill last week. High fever and all signs of mastitis. Groomed her the evening before, and her nipples were all soft and fine.

Of course, we rushed to the vet, and she got strong medication and is getting it.

After 3 days, the fever stopped, but the infected skin broke open.

It looks horrible, and we have to disinfect it several times per day.

She can’t be with her puppies and is staying inside with the air con to cool her down, first for the fever and now to protect her against any fly that would love to drop her eyes in the open, soaking sound.

it is the first time in 54 years that I face such drama.

My brave Uschi, I adore her.

It still looks dramatic, but in fact it starts to heal

This giant hole should be closed within 1 week.

But it takes a bit longer. Disinfect it once a day and apply medical honey ointment once a day.
